How long has it been since you cleaned the inside of your refrigerator? If you can’t remember, it’s probably time to give the fridge interior a good scrub and to take a look at all the condiments and leftovers that have accumulated in the corners.
Empty the Fridge
The first thing you should do is take everything out of the fridge. Lay a towel down on the counter or the floor and remove the contents. If your fridge is organized, keep things grouped by their positions on the shelves. If not, this is a great chance to organize the fridge’s contents. When you don’t have enough space to put your fridge contents down, you should consider a professional kitchen cleaning.
Clean the Interior
Some refrigerators just need a quick wipe before everything is ready to go back inside. Others require some scrubbing. Either way, get your favorite cleaning products out and take a sponge to the shelves, walls, and door of the fridge. Then, wipe everything down with a wet cloth to remove cleaning supply residue. Be sure to use a dry rag to towel off the interior or you’ll create extra condensation.
Assess the Contents
Is anything out of date? This is the time to look at the dates on your juice cartons and assess the leftovers hiding in Tupperware containers. You should also wipe down any containers, jugs, or jars that look a little grimy. After all, the mess lingering on your fridge shelves got there somehow, and it was probably from partially closed bottles or containers. Close the fridge door while you do this so as not to waste energy.
This isn’t the most fun of chores, but thankfully it’s a quick one. Unless your fridge is a huge mess, it probably won’t take you more than half an hour to do the whole process, including putting everything back in.
